Rugby enthusiasts are in for a thrilling weekend as Kenya hosts the 27th edition of the Safari Sevens tournament, set to take place from Friday to Sunday at Nyayo Stadium. The prestigious event will feature a vibrant mix of local and international teams across both men’s and women’s categories.
The team will be co-captained by George Ooro and Samuel Asati two key figures who have consistently anchored the Shujaa team in recent years. Coach Mwema expressed confidence in their leadership, experience, and ability to guide the team both on and off the pitch.
Notably, Kevin Wekesa and Patrick Odongo return to the squad after spending several months abroad playing Rugby League. Their international exposure is expected to bring fresh insights and tactical maturity to the squad.
The Kenya Morans, often seen as a development side for the national team, will be led by John Okoth of Menengai Oilers. This year’s squad is packed with rising stars, many of whom will be making their Safari7s debut.

“This year’s Safari7s is not just about showcasing talent but about building depth and testing combinations as we prepare for bigger challenges ahead. The blend of experience and debutants gives us balance, and the home fans can expect a feast of rugby,” said Coach Mwema.
